Mindfulness – Beginners

Thursday 6:30pm in Studio 1 (teacher varies, check timetable)

Sunday 6:00pm in Studio 2 – (The Foundations of Mindfulness with Mel Tokley)


These classes will teach you the key skills of Mindfulness, including the body scan, mindful breathing, mindful movement, and more. The core of this course is what is taught on the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction courses by Universities across the UK. We are contracted by the NHS to teach this course to patients, who lovingly refer to it as the ‘Beyond Stress’ course. It is a beautiful and gentle way to begin the practice.


There is no required reading for the Mindfulness Beginners Course. However if you are interested in a good book we thoroughly recommend ‘Full Catastrophe Living’ by Jon Kabat-Zinn and ‘The Power of Now’ by Eckhart Tolle.


As part of the course, students are strongly recommended to download Series 1 of the Guided Mindfulness Meditations by Jon Kabat-Zinn Audio MP3. It can be downloaded from here.


Please note that this is a rolling 6-week course, so you can join at any time. Below is what will be covered from week to week:

Mindfulness and Self-Inquiry (with Angus)

Wednesday 8:00pm in Studio 1


These popular classes have been running for over 10 years and help students go much deeper into their mindfulness meditation practice; a natural progression from the Beginners Course, we will explore hidden aspects of mindfulness.

Please note that ANYONE can drop-in to these classes at any time. These classes are for everyone – from beginners to experienced practitioners. They are designed for anyone who wishes to let go of habitual stress through a combination of mindfulness, self-inquiry and group discussion. Please note that every week will be different and might include a combination of sitting meditations, dynamic movement meditations, breath work and group interaction. A typical class might look like this:

  • Arrive: aim to arrive 10 minutes before the class begins – free herbal tea and biscuits available
  • Check-in: Once settled, we begin (on a cushion or chair) the session with a short meditation and group ‘check-in’
  • Guided Meditation: The core of the class is a guided meditation lasting around 20 minutes (the guided Meditation/technique is different each week)
  • Open discussion: the week’s subject matter is opened up for discussion among the group
  • No book or reading is required



Breath Work and Meditation (with Laurent)

Monday 6:30pm in Studio 2 –  from 31 October 2016


Pranayama or ‘’breath control’’ practice is in the heart of yoga and everything derives from it. Without breath, there are neither yoga poses nor a quiet mind. When we work our breath, we gain access to our life force energy.

Among our physical practice and meditation, pranayama has a very important place and should be practiced daily or as often as possible. Let’s not forget that one meaning of yoga is “union”. The 3 elements of our yoga practice work together and should not be separated. If one is missing, the others 2 are unbalanced. Pranayama makes that connection between the physical body and the subtle body!

During this ‘’ Breath work and meditation’’ class we will prepare the foundations, the bases for a safe and careful breathing practice. We will be aiming to strengthen the respiratory system, and soothe and balance the nervous system. As desires and cravings diminish, the mind is set free and becomes a fit vehicle for concentration and meditation.

In the class, we will also incorporate meditations, awareness and deep relaxation techniques which will enhance the overall experience and the understanding of Pranayama.

This class is accessible to everyone even beginners.

Mindfulness Meditation: From Fear into Love (with Aoife)

Tuesday 8:00pm in Studio 2 – from 8 November 2016


Aoife Espinosa creates a friendly and safe environment to experience the art of mindfulness. The aim of the class is for the students to become self-sufficient so that they not only benefit from the practice but are able to incorporate it in their everyday life. The warmth of sharing creates a space of community and togetherness. These classes are composed of two aspects:

  1. Mindfulness practices where we deepen our skills of Mindfulness (including the body scan, mindful breathing, mindful movement and more)
  2. Guided meditations where we practice self-transformation. The focus of these guided meditations is to enable a shift from the current paradigm based on fear to one based on love. We explore and deepen elements such as self-acceptance, compassion, loving kindness, self-observation and forgiveness.

All levels welcome. Open to everyone.

Mindfulness: Deepening Practice (with Dr Mel Tokley)

Sunday 7:30pm in Studio 2 – from 6 November 2016


This mindfulness class is an opportunity to explore the path of mindfulness at a deeper level.  Each class will invite a guided practice, inquiry, and a co-created discussion around themes relevant to the application of mindfulness in our daily lives.  This may include concepts such as mindful communication, self-compassion, spiritual bypassing, emotion regulation, and the neuroscience of meditation.

Dr Melanie Tokley is a Mindfulness Teacher and Clinical Neuropsychologist working in the NHS and private sectors.

This class is most suitable for those with some experience of mindfulness or other forms of meditative practice, but all are welcome.
